Rinny Perkins

“We need a whole year.”

-Whitney Houston on Black History Month

Rinny Perkins is a Los Angeles-based multidisciplinary visual artist, actor and writer. Born and raised in Third Ward, Houston, TX, her art nods to the 70s Blaxploitation nostalgia she was exposed to as child. Rinny uses both her comedic writing and performing to emphasis on the intersections of feminism in identity of Black and queer womanhood.

Before changing her minor and major 3x at LSU, Rinny found her voice in comedy, moved to LA and trained at Upright Citizens Brigade. As an actor, she’s appeared in TV series such as Physical (AppleTV), BOSCH (Amazon) and (NBC) + a wild amount of commercials. She also wrote the UCB comedy sketch show, The Only Black Kids at the Show

She continues use visual art as an instrument to disrupt the homogenous representation of women in media. She’s served as the creative on campaigns with brands such as Apple, Nike, Amazon and more. Her work has been featured by outlets such as I-D/VICE, Nylon and Teen Vogue and most recently was one of the 30 artists published in the large format book Dream In Color via Chronicle Books.

Her first book, Not Everyone is Going To Like You will be released in April 24, 2023 via Penguin/Kokila Books

Oh yeah, she plays bass + rollerskates + skateboards + makes trill playlists.
